Uses

2-bromo-1-phenyl-1-pentanone is a white crystalline powder, a derivative of valerone. It can be used as a pharmaceutical intermediate.

Production Methods

At room temperature, 16.2g (0.1mol) phenopanone and 30.9g (0.3mol) sodium bromide were added into a 500mL round-bottom flask respectively. After stirring evenly, 24g (0.2mol) 30% hydrochloric acid was added, and 19g (0.15mol) 30% hydrogen peroxide was slowly added. After the reaction was monitored by TLC, the stirring was stopped and stratified. The mixture was washed with saturated sodium carbonate and saturated salt respectively, and the organic phase was combined. After concentration, the organic phase was dried by anhydrous magnesium sulfate to produce 2-bromo-1-phenyl-1-valentone, a bright yellow oily liquid with 95% yield. Purity 98%.
